In today's interconnected world, video meetings and conferencing have transformed the way we live and work. These advancements have played a crucial role in keeping us connected, particularly during global pandemic lockdowns, fostering collaboration and facilitating the exchange of skills and services.
Teletalk Speech Pathology recognises the unique potential of video meetings in delivering speech pathology services. Platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom have paved the way for engaging interactions between clinicians and clients, enabling effective progress towards therapy goals, even in virtual settings.
Telehealth, also known as online speech therapy, offers remarkable advantages. It provides accessibility to individuals residing in remote areas where speech pathology services may be limited. It eliminates the need for travel, saving valuable time for those with busy schedules, as therapy can now take place conveniently in the comfort of one's home. Moreover, telehealth opens doors to a wider range of service providers, transcending geographical boundaries and allowing clients to connect with the best specialists worldwide.
At Teletalk, our telehealth speech therapy service offers an immersive and interactive experience. For adults, virtual therapy feels familiar, interactive, and conversational, while children can enjoy equally lively, fun, and dynamic online sessions. Imagine your child's favourite YouTube channel, tailored specifically to support their speech pathology goals.
To facilitate our telehealth services, we utilise Zoom as our trusted platform. This enables seamless document sharing, image exchange, and real-time collaboration through online whiteboards. Zoom can be accessed on various devices, such as phones, tablets, or computers. Prior to each session, you will receive a Zoom meeting invitation and a password via email, ensuring a smooth connection.
Extensive research supports the effectiveness of telehealth-delivered speech pathology, demonstrating its impact on par with in-person interventions for school-aged children to achieve speech, language, and literacy goals.
Telehealth refers to the provision of health services through online video conferencing. This method is commonly used by allied health practitioners to support remote communities. Teletalk Speech Pathology has been utilizing telehealth for the past four years, offering assessment and therapy services to clients located interstate or overseas. We also provide this service to our local clients, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak, due to its positive impact on clients and their families.
You will need a laptop, tablet, mobile phone, or computer, along with an internet connection. Headphones are optional.
We will email you a secure Zoom link and a guide of how to use it. Allow Zoom to access your camera and microphone, and make sure the volume is turned up.
You can download the Zoom app or access it through your browser.
Telehealth is as effective for most clients from preschool age and above. Children up to middle primary may require support from a parent or caregiver. Individuals with vision, hearing, attention, or physical difficulties may need modifications or additional support. If you are unsure, discuss it with your speech pathologist.
For child therapy sessions, you may need asked to print off materials prior to the session so that you can participate in sessions with your child. We also suggest using any games you already have at home (Connect 4, stacking blocks, Pop Up Pirate) so that we can take brain breaks.
For upper primary to adult clients, online therapy can easily take place with your device on a table in front of you. They may benefit from having a pen/notebook or whiteboard/marker.
